Recent studies have shown that sudden cardiac arrest rates are increasing in alarming rates throughout the country. There is a need for a quick response to these emergency situations. Defibrillation, or "Defib", is the technique of using electric shocks to stop an abnormal or potentially fatal heart rhythm. The AED, or automated external defibrillator, has been known to be the best method of fast response to these situations, but such machines can be expensive and difficult to use. The manual defibrillator is a cheaper alternative that can be used by medical assistants.
